Admit it you have substituted a new tire of a different size!! Perhaps you bought a tire from J.C. Whitney as I have. Instead of ordering the exact METRIC replacement you substituted an English profile. OK---- you noticed that even with this different size, you still had fender clearance------at least the clearance of a pencil between the tire and the front leading edge of the fender.

At fifty miles per hour the centrifugal force expands the diameter of the tire enough that it squeals like a siren as it tries to pass the front of the fender. The fix is to modify the fender. My first attempt was to file away the metal on both front and rear edges. This allowed me to drive to seventy before the squeal started.

The correction of the problem came with completely removing the steel wire in which the fender edge bead was formed around and the edge as then compressed to two layers thick. Needed to touch up the edge with paint. This still was not enough clearance and so I elongated the fender mounting holes the edge so as to enable a different mount position farther away from the wheel. The tire grows 3/4 inch in diameter at high speed!!
